Post 10: English language

Hi, dear classmates Today is the last day that I´ll writing this blog, because English finish next week, it´s a little sad, but also great because it´s mean that we´re finish another year in university, well done for us! The English class was great to me, I feel that I learn so much because it make you practice constantly, and that’s what you need for learn a language. I think that I improved my writing, my compression and my vocabulary (it´s not perfect, but is acceptable). But most important I don’t have shame of doing it and try, even when I do wrong. I was surprise to myself when I could read a anthropology paper in English, that´s huge. Maybe that´s something we can do in the class, working in texts related with ours career, because the vocabulary is so specific, and is useful for what we do. But, It´s was funny written here in the blog, it´s dynamic and you can see the work of all your classmates. Another thing I like was the listening, it´s like a game, so fun. ...

Post 9: Changes to my study program

Hi! Classmate The topic for today is the change I would like to do to my study program. I study anthropology and I like very much the program that has the career. If I have to change something of the study program in the basic cycle (that lasts the first two years of the career) I would shorten the subjects related with the specialties, like archeology and physic anthropology, maybe that’s because I like social anthropology, but I think those subjects are too specific for the first year, and then you forget all that, because you don´t use it. In the advance cycle - in the specialization- I like very much the program, because you don´t have to take subject obligatorily, but you have to choose between a series of subjects, you only have to comply with certain lines. The main lines are: methods, anthropological theories, apply anthropology, socio-cultural anthropology, ethnologies and one complementary of your choice. For example, in the line of methods, you have to complet...

Post 8: Summer Holidays

With the strength of the sun Today I have another opportunity to speak about carnivals, because my plans for this year summer holidays it´s related with that. I´m have to plan travel with my boyfriend and another friends to the North of Chile, for the Andean carnival “with the strength of the sun”. We want to go because we participate in company who present their art in the carnivals of Santiago, who call “The swirl”. The carnival last 3 days, from 26th to 28th of January, and the idea is going to do the networks for we can participate next year. It´s difficult been part of this carnival, because it´s only for Andean companies, but all the years they invite one company of another style and we hope can be us. I have never been to this carnival, but according to what I know it´s amazing. Many Andean companies parade down the street of Arica, they coming to all the country and even from others countries. You can see companies conformed of hundreds of people with flashy cloths...

Post 6: Postgraduate Studies

Hi Classmate, how are you?? Today´s topic is what postgraduate studies I consider taking in the future. Like a say in another post, I like to work in gender issues. I always worry for injustice and discrimination, and I think that the gender issues touch me more because I´m a woman and have lived and sense what its feel, that make me more empathic. I would like to work with different woman of different places and cultures, because I feel we learn from each other. I think it´s could be interesting take the opportunity of study in other countries. In that way you can know how is to live in some other place. Also, lately I would like to live in England, because I want to know there culture, I like because they have a long history. But the most relevant factor to me in order to choose where study is the quality and specialization of the University in the gender´s topic. I wish I could have the resources for study full- time, but I see it unlikely, the only way that’s c...

She was part of the guerrilla and tells us how all that change radically her life, because she was a middle class woman and a housewife, but she decided fight against the dictatorship of Somosa, and joined the ranks of the “Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional” known as FSLN. In the way she had many adventures, she fall in love of a soldier of the FSLN, transported weapons, and wrote about the liberation of her country. She was taken in prison and forced into exile, first in México and then in Costa Rica. Post 7: We have Carnivals

In Challa time nobody gets angry! Many people think that in Santiago and Chile in general, we don’t have carnivals, and when we think in carnivals we imagine Rio´s Carnival o Barranquilla Carnival. But the fact is that in our city we have carnivals since a long time ago. The history of carnivals goes back to the European middle age, when celebrate charisma time. But the native people of Latin-American also have carnivals who celebrate harvest time and different moments of the annual cycles. So, the carnival we have now it’s a mixing of these two developments. The “Challa carnival” is one of the most ancient carnivals of Santiago. The tradition of “challar” come from the Andean Culture (Who had carnivals since pre-hispanic times), and mains spry water and liquid as a form of blessing things and person, and in carnival contexts it´s use as a game where everyone gets wet. That celebration was common in the country in summertime, and with the people migration to the city, it be...

Post 5: My future Job

Hi Classmate! Today I´m going to talk about how I imagine “my future job”. In the first place, you have to know I study Anthropology, so my future job it´s have to be related with that. A time ago I thought that I want to do others stuff, related with art and plastic, so I “frezeed” the career and I explored in that area, but cheerfully in that way ended up working on things related to anthropology. Funny, do you think so? So, after three years I decided come back and finish my career. That’s why my dream job is in the anthropology studies.  I don’t strive for a high salary, only want live fine and easy. Now I have a job as free-lance in the Quality Education Agency, of the Ministry of Education, analyzing information of interviews and as research support, but I do that because I have to maintain myself. What I really like to do is working in gender issues, that it´s what I love, and that´s why I like to do a major en gender in some other place, like a México or...
